Where to Begin…

Right after completing her master at the Theatre school of Amsterdam, Singer/Songwriter Vera de Bree changes course. She packs her suitcase full of songs and travels to the South of France. Driven by her intuition and her love for adventure and music. There in la douce France, at the art gallery of Rain Heron and Lance Ojeda, she performs her program ‘A girl and her piano’. After touring for the last 10 years with big Dutch orchestra’s, with at least 40 musicians, Vera now performs for the first time on her own. Only her songs, her voice and her piano. With Dutch, French and English songs. Her favorite covers and songs of her own. Sung from heart to heart. Rain, Lance and her French audience inspire Vera that summer to record her new music.
Back in Amsterdam Vera calls up her friend musicians, and records 5 of her original songs, at the Souldust Studio of Pim Dros. During this process Vera more and more finds her way to give her new music a real heartbeat. New music with special attention to the lyrics. Vera consciously has chosen for no sounds out of computers for her new sound. Only real, great musicians, to give her music the pure sound that fits her songs. With influences of Vera’s blues and jazz heroes like Nina Simone, Gregory Porter, Shirley Horn and Joni Mitchell.

Vera de Bree’s new EP “Where To Begin” features 5 original new songs. Her new music is layered, soulful and all original with a touch of jazz and blues. Vera’s vast and lusty vocal range weaves its way through her lyrics that are brave, emoting, relatable and wise. Vera de Bree connects her listeners to their daydreams as well as their more earthly delights and plights, combining grace and a sense of wonder like a modern day Alice in Wonderland.

The thin line of reality
That only can rhyme
